Our projects.

We enable projects to strengthen the local food system.

Projects, initiatives and events we are proud to support.

  • Enabling resilient food systems toolbox.

Local Government Research and Development Project.

In 2021, a grant project team explored what a healthy and sustainable food system looks like through a series of public events hosted by the City of Onkaparinga, City of Marion, Alexandrina Council and Mount Barker District Council.

How can a healthy and sustainable food system drive climate change action? Support local jobs? Reduce food waste? Connect us as a community?

These events helped design a toolbox to help local governments enable local resilient food systems in the face of climate risks.

This project was made possible by an LGA grant through the Local Government Research and Development Scheme and coordinated by the Cities of Holdfast Bay, Marion, Onkaparinga, Salisbury, Mount Barker District Council, Alexandrina Council, Heart Foundation, Green Adelaide and the SA Urban Food Network.

  • Adelaide Edible Garden Trail.

A virtual tour of six inspiring Adelaide edible gardens.

The Adelaide Edible Garden Trail celebrates the many ways Kaurna Land residents are creating food sovereignty while saving money and the environment — and enjoying the health benefits of homegrown fruit and veggies.

For this first-time 2021 event, six backyard growers opened their gardens via informative online video tours, sharing their knowledge and inspiring you to get growing at your place.

This initiative was coordinated by a small group of volunteers: the Growers Collective with Sustainable Communities SA, the Awesome Foundation, City of Onkaparinga, City of Holdfast Bay, Green Adelaide and the SA Urban Food Network.

  • Dr. Sue Booth at the Hawke Centre.

    An introduction to food democracy.

As food consumers living in a democracy, we have a right to say how our food system could be improved, and to take steps – however small – to improve the system. We joined Dr. Sue Booth as she explores how democracy can be used to empower citizens to have choices and to find greater satisfaction in the food we eat.

  • Stories of local food.

Ten inspiring stories from local food champions around SA.

Our annual flagship event celebrates so many good things happening here in South Australia, and we are so happy to be able to share these stories while bringing like-minded locals together. Check our events page for more details on our upcoming events.
